The Freedom ProgrammeThe Freedom Programme is open to any women who wishes to know more about domestic abuse. It is a 12 week rolling programme that runs at Aylesbury, Chesham and High Wycombe at various venues, for one hour a week in term time, a free creche is available at some venues. There is also one evening session in Aylesbury. Each group has two faciilitators who are fully trained and have a deep understanding of the issues surrounding domestic abuse. The Freedom Programme is free and confidential. The aim is to help women to understand the beliefs held by abusive men and the effects upon children, whilst helping them gain the confidence to improve the quality of their lives and identify the local resources that can help. It is not about tell women what to but empowering them to make their own choices. Those who have experienced abuse have little or no understanding of what has happened to them and it simply feels like a painful and confusing mess for which they are largely to blame; the Freedom Programme aims to start turning around this at the womens own pace. The philosophy of the programme is based on research and outlines the role played in such offending by the pursuit of power and control. The feedback that we have had from our service users is very positive. Here are is just some of what people have said: "Without the programme I would have gone back to him. I was scared of being a single mum but realised that I can do it by myself". "I use it in all aspects of my every day life". "Emotionally enabled me and my children to move on. I can now hold my head up and walk down the street". "I feel that I have escaped from a cave".
